Richard Ogilvie, son of highly regarded Australian bronze sculptor Bill Ogilvie, has chosen timber as his preferred medium. He has recently created an oeuvre of indoor wooden pieces out of the grounding root system from age old trees. By hand he reduces the timber mass significantly to reveal a form and the beautiful grain and colour within. His unique creations include boats, chairs and organic abstract pieces such as “Phoenix Rising”, “Inside Out”, “Kelp” and “Coral”. His first exhibition is at Without Pier Gallery in Cheltenham from 8-22 July and is well worth a visit.
